FUNDED ALLIED HEALTH

Why this Program?

Falls are a major concern for older adults in residential aged care, with a significant impact on physical health, confidence, and independence. The program is a targeted strength and balance training program based on the Sunbeam model to address this concern, and funded by the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN).

Who are NWMPHN?

NWMPHN is a government funded primary health network that supports health providers and organisations in the North and West of Melbourne. The aim is to deliver efficient, effective and accessible care. NWMPHN is operated by Melbourne Primary Care Network (PHN).

The Sunbeam Program is delivered in a group setting, allowing for social interaction and support from peers. Participants will engage in a combination of strength and balance exercises, designed to improve overall physical health and wellbeing. Research has shown that strength and balance training can significantly reduce the risk of falls among older adults, and the Sunbeam Program is an effective way to achieve this.

The benefits of participating in the Sunbeam Program are numerous. Older adults can improve their physical function, increase their confidence and independence, and reduce their risk of injury. Additionally, the program is a great opportunity for social interaction, making new friends, and enjoying a supportive environment.

The Sunbeam Program is not just about reducing the risk of falls, it's about improving quality of life for older adults in residential aged care.

The program is designed to be challenging but achievable, and participants will feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from their achievements.

If you or a loved one is in residential aged care, we highly recommend participating in the Sunbeam Program. The program is an effective way to improve physical health and wellbeing, and is a great opportunity to make new friends and socialize with others in a supportive environment.

If you are interested in participating, please speak to the staff at your aged care facility or CONTACT US to find out more information.
